Working the events, such as New Student Orientation and Accepted Student Day, is very fulfilling. There is nothing quite like being able to talk about your experiences over the past year to the new/ prospective students. It is great seeing their faces light up when discussing all the experiences that come along with being a part of the CM Department, particularly when engaging with the CM Club.
Some examples of these experiences are being able to go on site visits to numerous construction projects. My favorite site was the New Balance building next to the Mass Pike. When touring these sites, you can see the new methods that top construction companies are implementing.
Another example is going to the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) conference when it was in Las Vegas. These conferences allow you to see the new software, methods, and future innovations companies are offering. You get to network with all the professionals that come to these events. Networking may lead you to receive a co-op!
There are also events that we do for the community. For example, this past year the CM Club partnered with Freedom by Design to build a cabin for the YMCA. Our Active Club Members are building a cabin for the students ages from 9-13! This project will continue into the Fall 2018 semester, so you have an opportunity to join! This also gives you more hands on experience, as we build all the walls and other parts of the cabin.
We also partner with professionals in the industry to help and guide us as growing professionals. Getting. involved in the CM Club has helped me, as well as other students in the CM Department (and other majors), gain new relationships in the industry!
